Contributing to the Development of Adventure Tourism Standards in Vietnam

Adventure tourism involves exploring natural environments, undertaking physical challenges, and participating in outdoor activities. Experiences such as hiking, trekking through forests, mountain climbing, mountain biking, and cave exploration can create memorable journeys while diversifying tourism offerings across destinations.

However, these activities also require careful planning, risk assessment, qualified guides, appropriate equipment, and effective safety procedures.

Developing national standards is an important step toward improving professionalism and strengthening safety practices in Vietnam’s adventure tourism sector.

Le Kim Nhut, Director of Nha Trang Tre Travel Company and a member of the Executive Committee of the Khanh Hoa Tourism Association, is among the contributors to the drafting committee for a proposed national standard concerning adventure tourism, particularly hiking and trekking activities. The draft was developed based on the adoption of ISO 3021:2023 as an equivalent international standard.

The participation of tourism business representatives brings practical industry perspectives into the standards development process, helping connect technical requirements with the realities of organizing and delivering tourism services.

Safety Standards: A Foundation for Sustainable Adventure Tourism

An enjoyable adventure tourism experience depends on more than beautiful landscapes or physical challenges. It also relies on effective risk management, professional operations, and the ability to protect travelers throughout their journeys.

Standards addressing hiking and trekking activities can provide a professional reference for tour operators, guides, and other stakeholders involved in outdoor tourism.

In practice, developing responsible adventure tourism products requires attention to several key areas:

• Route and destination assessment: Evaluating terrain, weather conditions, difficulty levels, and potential hazards before each journey.
• Risk and safety management: Establishing preventive measures, emergency response procedures, and appropriate support for travelers.
• Professional staff development: Strengthening guides’ knowledge, outdoor activity skills, and ability to respond to unexpected situations.
• Environmental protection: Promoting responsible tourism practices that minimize negative impacts on natural landscapes and ecosystems.
• Quality visitor experiences: Combining exploration with education, local culture, and respect for host communities.

These considerations are important to building an adventure tourism sector that is safer, more professional, and environmentally responsible.

Nha Trang Tre: Connecting Tourism Business Experience with Industry Development

Operating in the tourism and travel sector, Nha Trang Tre focuses on organizing travel experiences and tourism activities connected with the natural resources, culture, and local communities of Vietnam.

For tourism businesses, participating in professional initiatives related to standards development creates opportunities to contribute practical experience while engaging with increasingly important requirements for service quality, risk management, and product development.

This approach is particularly relevant as international travelers increasingly seek distinctive, responsible, and professionally organized experiences.

In Nha Trang and Khanh Hoa Province, diversifying tourism products around coastal landscapes, islands, mountains, forests, and local culture offers opportunities to attract new visitor segments and encourage longer, more meaningful stays.

Realizing this potential requires a balanced approach that protects natural resources, complies with applicable regulations, and places visitor safety at the center of tourism operations.

Working Together to Raise the Standards of Vietnam’s Tourism Industry

The long-term development of tourism depends not only on creating new products but also on improving professional standards, strengthening human resources, and encouraging greater responsibility across the industry.

Le Kim Nhut’s participation in the drafting committee for proposed national standards related to adventure tourism represents an example of how tourism businesses can contribute practical perspectives to professional development initiatives.

Through its business activities and industry engagement, Nha Trang Tre aims to support higher-quality tourism experiences and contribute to the sustainable development of Khanh Hoa Province and Vietnam as a whole.
